Wardrop’s Detailed Engineering capabilities cover the complete spectrum of requirements for mining and milling operations.  Our Detailed Engineering teams can provide services required from a Greenfield site to the design of a fully operational mine and milling facility.  Our teams have successfully executed numerous Brownfield projects and are acutely aware of the challenges of working in existing facilities.

Application of our expertise starts with the design of open pit, underground, or solution mining facilities and extends through to multi-disciplined detailing for construction of the milling and other site facilities.  Process optimization, mine/mill expansions and maintenance engineering projects are covered by our engineering teams.

Wardrop works with its clients through all the stages of development of an opportunity:

Detailed Design Teams

Our detailed design teams cover all aspects of the facility with teams of Professional Engineers and Designers in the fields of:

  • Project Management and Project Controls
  • Mining Engineering
  • Process /Metallurgy/Chemical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Piping Engineering
  • Layout
  • Civil Engineering
  • Structural Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Instrumentation and Control Engineering
  • Cost Estimation

Our integrated engineering design teams can execute the full range of design and specification of equipment within the mine and milling complex for global mining projects.

Software & Technology

We are accustomed to using various software tools to accelerate the design of the facility and ensure that the best technologies are being utilized for the design of your project. Our expertise includes:

  • The Wardrop Process design team is capable of computer simulation of complex process facilities including utilities balances to support the facility.
  • Our Layout department captures the proposed design using AutoCad© 3D models in CadWorx© which allow clear visualization of how the facility will be constructed to enable you to look at and compare alternatives before procurement or construction is started. Major equipment, HVAC, piping, structural steel, and cable trays are added to the model to find and correct any interferences or fit issues before construction is started.
  • Our Structural Team use Pro-Steel© for structural design of our milling facilities.
  • Our Civil Team use 3D Civil© Software.
  • Stress Analysis of piping by our Piping Engineers are done by FEA programs like Caesar II©.  Our Engineers also use computer programs for pressure vessel design.  Flow software assist in multi-flow piping systems.  Piping ISO’s are generated directly from the model.
  • Our Electrical Engineers use ETAP software for electrical power system analysis and design.
  • Our Instrumentation and Control personnel use software tools for production of deliverables such as instrumentation loop diagrams and are proficient in the programming and configuration of numerous DCS and PLC platforms.

Cost Estimating

Professional Cost Estimators, with support from the engineering disciplines, develop capital cost estimates at each stage of engineering to allow the customer to make the best choices on the path forward in the project.
