Wardrop was a key member of the Canadian Space Station team and played a major role in the development of the Canadian Mobile Base System (MBS). The MBS will be transported aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour to the International Space Station on Thursday, May 30, 2002 (if all systems are a "go"). The Moblile Base System’s journey into space coincides with the time when Canadians are about to celebrate National Transportation Week and pay tribute to the many people who work in the transportation industry. The development of the International Space Station is transportation history in the making, as it could very well be used as a staging base for the transportation of people and supplies to and from other planets at some time in the future.
"This particular Space Shuttle Mission will certainly be watched with great pride by our staff," said Mr. Card who, at the height of Wardrop’s involvement, had a team of about 35 engineers and technologists plus other staff working on various aspects of the project. Wardrop’s responsibilities on the MBS project included the design, procurement, manufacture, assembly, integration and acceptance testing of the Mobile Base System Structure. Wardrop was also involved in the development of other pieces of support equipment and mechanisms associated with the operation including the Power Data Grapple Fixture, which forms the interface between the MBS and the Canadarm2. Wardrop’s employees take great pride in the fact that the company’s name is included on the crest that was designed to commemorate Canada’s historic participation in Mission STS-111, Assembly Flight UF2 of the International Space Station.
